I know, they want to sell the new version. This is their business model. Also, there has to be a differentiation between the new talking device and the old one still for sale. But, in my opinion, the vast majority of Shuffle owners (excluding the geeks and early adopters) would probably not upgrade their device until they lose it or when it breaks. Come on, the current model is already damn small and pretty sexy.
So, Apple, why not offer a paid upgrade to let the millions of shuffle users to take advantage of the new VoiceOver feature? It sounds like a great new revenue stream.
Pricing? I’d say USD 24,99. This should be compelling for a lot of people and would avoid cannibalization through sales of the older device followed by an upgrade. I guess most people would prefer 4x the storage and a beautiful minimalist design by only 5 extra bucks.
